Positive Legislator and Advocate Dies at 63
Democratic Illinois state representative Larry McKeon—the state’s first openly gay and HIV-positive legislator—died on Tuesday, May 13, at the age of 63 from stroke complications.
A champion of gay rights, McKeon fought to add the words “sexual orientation” to a state law forbidding discrimination against people applying for jobs, housing, credit and public accommodations.
