A settlement agreement has been reached in the case of an HIV-positive man who claimed a laser hair removal company discriminated against him because of his status. Howard Orlick filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) against American Laser Centers, LLC. In 2009 and again in 2010, Orlick was allegedly informed at two different locations in New York City that the area to be treated had to be preshaved and that shaving services weren’t available to clients who have HIV. As part of the agreement, Orlick will receive $12,000 and American Laser Centers has agreed not to refuse services to people with disabilities.
