Libya Will Open All Files From Bulgarian HIV Trial
Libya will be opening all files from a controversial Bulgarian HIV trial in which the Libyan government accused five Bulgarian nurses and one Palestinian doctor of deliberately infecting more than 400 children with HIV in 1998 at a children’s hospital, novinite.com reports. Issa Omar Ashur, the new Libyan ambassador to Bulgaria, made the announcement at Sofia. He represents the National Transitional Council of Libya, which currently controls the country. Under the Gaddafi regime, the medical workers were tried and sentenced to death. After eight years in jail, they were extradited in 2007 to Bulgaria and released because of international pressure. Last month, Bulgaria renewed its investigation into the alleged torture of the medical workers during their time in jail.
