Mandatory Testing for Carolina Moms-to-Be?

The North Carolina Commission for Public Health recommended this week that all pregnant women in the state who don’t know their HIV status should be tested for the virus when they arrive at a hospital to give birth.

Currently, mothers are offered HIV/AIDS testing as part of their prenatal care, but they have the choice of opting out of it.

The commission also said that newborns brought to medical facilities should be tested.
