Arkansas Voters to Decide on Medical Marijuana
Election officials in Arkansas have approved putting a
proposal on the ballot this November on whether to legalize medical marijuana,
The Associated Press reports. Advocates of the measure seek to make the state
the first in the South to approve marijuana for medicinal purposes. HIV/AIDS,
cancer, glaucoma and Alzheimer’s disease would be among the qualifying
conditions to purchase medical marijuana from nonprofit dispensaries with a
doctor’s recommendation. The proposal would also allow qualified patients to
grow pot for their use if they live more than five miles from a dispensary.
