Who qualifies for coverage under Medicaid is tied to the outcome of the presidential election, The Huffington Post reports. More than half of Medicaid beneficiaries are children. Parents, pregnant women, people with disabilities and the elderly make up the rest. Childless working-age adults who don’t qualify for disability benefits often can’t get Medicaid because federal law doesn’t require coverage. However, when fully implemented, the health care reform law aims to cover 10 million childless adults by extending Medicaid to anyone who earns up to 133 percent of the federal poverty line, which is currently $14,856. Repealing health care reform, capping federal Medicaid spending and turning the program over to the states could result in up to 44 million fewer people being covered.
