The developer and owner of the former St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City has agreed to allow an AIDS memorial in its triangle park, according to an AIDS Memorial Park Coalition statement. The agreement between the coalition and Rudin Management Company was brokered by New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. It calls for a significant and prominent AIDS memorial as the primary feature in the triangle-shaped park that sits across the street from the former hospital, which was the epicenter of the early U.S. AIDS epidemic. The memorial design process will incorporate concepts from entries submitted to the coalition’s international design competition.
