Justice Department Settles HIV Suit Against Missouri Clinic
A clinic in Missouri has settled a lawsuit with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) over refusing to treat a woman for a serious eating disorder because she has HIV, according to a DOJ statement. The settlement resolves allegations that the Castlewood Treatment Center violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by refusing to treat Susan Gibson. The center must pay $115,000 to Gibson and $25,000 in civil penalties. The center must also train its staff on the ADA and implement an anti-discrimination policy.
