Brazil’s President to Build HIV Drug Factory in Mozambique
Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited Mozambique on October 16 to launch a project to manufacture generic antiretroviral medications there, Agence France-Presse reports.
According to the article, Brazil—a country widely heralded for its success in treating and preventing HIV—will invest $23 million to build the factory that will manufacture eight HIV-fighting medications. Production of the generic drugs is scheduled to begin before the end of 2009.
Mozambique’s HIV prevalence among 16- to 19-year-olds is estimated at more than 16 percent, according to figures from the southeast African nation.

"I'm HIV positive and diabetic (as well as have high cholesterol) and some of my meds specify taking them with 'high fat foods' which I have to do twice a day. I've eaten as healthy as possible, but when it comes to high fat foods, I am in a quandary...about what to eat sometimes..."
