MSM Attitudes on PrEP, Access to HIV Services

Access to HIV and sexual health services is worse around the world for young men who have sex with men (MSM) than it is for those older than 30, according to a Global Forum for MSM and HIV study and reported by aidsmap. MSM younger than 30 also experience heightened levels of homophobia, violence, poverty and poor housing. The study also explored attitudes by MSM about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). MSM who were connected to other MSM in higher income countries and who knew more about PrEP were less likely to think positively about PrEP. MSM who experienced more stigma, homophobia and violence as well as negative attitudes from health care workers were more likely to think positively about PrEP.

we can thank the long-accursed Michael Weinstein and his extended, well-funded disinformation campaign for negative attitudes toward PrEP. anecdotal reports among researchers even suggest many doctors are actively discouraging their patients from trying PrEP...using outright falsehoods! no matter tho, the sheer vacuum of needed new HIV Prevention modalities remains with us. relying on condoms-only as Prevention is like relying on AZT as the sole Treatment for HIV--an abject failure, thru n thru.
