Indonesian Muslims Protest Condom Giveaways
According to the United Nations, Indonesia has the fastest-growing HIV epidemic in Asia. AFP News reports that as the country launched its first national condom campaign on World AIDS Day, this past December 1, hundreds of Muslims gathered to protest the free latex distribution (ca.news.yahoo.com, 12/1).
Members of the protest group Anti-Pornography staged a rally in the capital city of Jakarta against the condom campaign, saying, “the use of condoms is another way to promote free sex.”
Meanwhile, in Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city, about 300 Muslim students handed out brochures and stickers that said “No Free Sex, No Drugs, Healthy living with Islamic law.”
