Substantial Declines in Free Condoms in Namibia
Distribution of free male and female condoms in Namibia has steadily declined in recent years, AllAfrica reports. Reduced funding by donors has resulted in fewer condom logistics officers to coordinate the distribution. Diminished funding also affects operational items such as transport of the condoms. About 21 million male condoms and 499,000 female condoms were distributed in 2009, which respectively dropped to about 15 million and 281,000 in 2012. Officials attribute most of the drops to lack of funding, but they also acknowledge other factors, such as accessibility and packaging, are to blame.
