Since August 2007, the FDA has approved three new HIV meds. Two are in brand-new med classes: entry inhibitors and integrase inhibitors. How far have we come over the past 10 years? Pretty far. You do the math:
In May 1998 there were a total of 3 HIV med classes: nukes, non-nukes and protease inhibitors. There were 11 separate drugs available.
In May 2008 there are 6 med classes. Total number of separate HIV drugs in use: 22.*
