NYC Health Official Claims Meningitis Outbreak Stopped

A senior New York City health department official claims the meningitis outbreak among local gay and bisexual men has stopped, CBS New York reports. Jay Varma, MD, a deputy commissioner, said there were no new cases since February. The outbreak led to a widespread vaccination campaign. Since 2010, there were 22 cases of meningitis among local sexually active gay and bisexual men; seven of them died. The city initially recommended only sexually active HIV-positive gay and bisexual men get vaccinated, but it expanded that recommendation to all sexually active gay and bisexual men.

Thank you for the update. It would help if you could includ some data from the other cities that were involved, LA & SF, etc. Massachusetts had a vaccination push since many GLBT men vacation in Boston and Provincetown. Hopefully, no new cases were reported in the GLBT population anywhere in the country.
