Thursday, June 5, is the first annual National HIV/AIDS Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day (NHALTSAD). This awareness day spotlights the experiences of long-term survivors of the epidemic, including both HIV-positive and HIV-negative people.

The lead sponsor is Let’s Kick ASS (AIDS Survivor Syndrome), a San Francisco–based group. “We’re Still Here” is the theme for this year, which underscores the strength and resilience of the generation who lived through the epidemic in the 1980s and 1990s.

Let’s Kick ASS is sponsoring an AIDS Survivor Summit in San Francisco today. A ceremony also will be held today at the AIDS Memorial Grove in San Francisco. Other events are taking place in Washington, DC; Seattle, Washington; and Portland, Oregon.
