NMAC Action Plan for HIV Among Black Gay, Bisexual Men

The National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC) has released RISE Proud: Combating HIV Among Black Gay and Bisexual Men, which commemorates the 32nd anniversary of the first reported AIDS cases and also coincides with the opening of LGBT Pride Month, according to an NMAC statement.

The RISE (Resources to Improve, Strengthen & Empower) report represents a three-year process that examined the contextual and structural factors impacting black gay and bisexual health. The resulting evidence-based recommendations address the criminal justice system, barriers to health care access and the role of social determinants in health outcomes.

“We not only [need to] increase funding for organizations that serve the health needs of black gay men, but also work to change the societal structures that perpetuate stigma, poverty and marginalization and prevent us from achieving optimal health outcomes,” said Kali Lindsey, NMAC director of legislative and public policy.
