NYC Gets More Than $100 Million in Ryan White AIDS Funding

New York City has been awarded more than $102 million in Ryan White AIDS funds—federal money used to fight HIV/AIDS—the city’s NY1 cable news network reports (ny1.com, 3/4).

In the report, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (NY) says the money is desperately needed to tackle the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the city, where an increasing number of people are living longer with the virus.

The funds will provide for a variety of health services, including medical care for HIV-positive New Yorkers and drug treatments.

I am very upset about the rate of the funding that we are reciveing in Passaic County as a Woman that likes to say that the HIV Virus is Living with me because God and I are in Control of this Disease I Pray that they start taking this Disease more serios and put up more money not only for Passaic County but for the Whole World thats Affected by HIV/AIDS Virus

Good for NYC, The rest of the country needs desperately to have more funds also. Why is it this country can send billions over seas for aids care and leaves us struggling to get services. Time to ACTUP I SAY.

As someone that work in the HIV/ADIS Field, I think the money should be monitored more because their is alot of waste of funding. The abuse that is rampant is unimaginable.

Congrats to NYC. Like John K's posting, I, too, am thrilled for NYC; the sad reality is that if Long Island were a 'State', we would be receiving $30 - $40 million in RW aid. Instead, a region with over 7,000 HIV/AIDS, we got cut twice in the past two years.('Part A' funding less than $6 mill!) In my opinion, there is no justice in the Treament Moderniztion Act; no social support services - will Congress please renew the 'CARE' Act? Greg

i am happy for N.Y.C. but Long Island needs more money for HIV care...
