White House Issues HIV/AIDS Call to Action

Today, October 2, the Obama Administration’s Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP) announced an online “Call to Action: Americans Speak Out About HIV/AIDS” to urge community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, schools, businesses, researchers, institutions and other groups to hold local discussions on how the president can best live up to his promise of developing an effective national AIDS strategy for the United States and its territories.

The call to action invites HIV advocates to brainstorm ideas and develop policy recommendations that address the three key national AIDS strategy goals: to reduce HIV incidence; increase access to care and optimize quality of life for people living with HIV; and reduce HIV-related health disparities.

Recommendations submitted to ONAP’s call to action site will be considered and evaluated during development of the national AIDS strategy. Comments on the website—as well as those made during ONAP’s series of HIV/AIDS Community Discussions—will be compiled in a report that highlights key concerns of Americans living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

The deadline for submissions is November 13.
