Kaiser Permanente Northwest has apologized to almost 6,500 members for testing their blood for HIV without their knowledge, OregonLive.com reports. The tests occurred in the states of Washington and Oregon between April 11 and May 5. Advocates blame a new law passed last year in Oregon for the mistake. The law replaced the requirement of being verbally informed about HIV testing to only needing to be informed in writing. However, the law still requires that patients be given a chance to opt out, and it allows them to sue if not given that chance.
