Pat Robertson Claims Gays Transmit HIV by Cutting With Rings

Christian televangelist and former presidential candidate Pat Robertson said gay men in San Francisco try to transmit HIV intentionally by cutting people with rings when they shake hands, Right Wing Watch reports. He made his remarks on The 700 Club, which is produced by his Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) and airs on ABC Family.

“You know what they do in San Francisco, some in the gay community there they want to get people so if they got the stuff they’ll have a ring, you shake hands, and the ring’s got a little thing where you cut your finger,” Robertson said. “Really. It’s that kind of vicious stuff, which would be the equivalent of murder.”

His remarks were made at the end of a segment in which he was responding to a question from a woman about AIDS. CBN edited his remarks out of the version it posted online. CBN had the original YouTube clip of his remarks taken down, but click here to watch The Huffington Post version.

In a statement to clarify his remarks, Robertson said: “In my own experience, our organization sponsored a meeting years ago in San Francisco where trained security officers warned me about shaking hands because, in those days, certain AIDS-infected activists were deliberately trying to infect people like me by virtue of rings which would cut fingers and transfer blood … [M]y remarks [weren’t] meant as an indictment of the homosexual community or, for that fact, to those infected with this dreadful disease.”

who r we to judge in this free country. lol he can think what he wants, however inane it may seem to others (everyone) . he is also addressing a very hot issue- "intentional" transmission of hiv. people are currently falling on both sides of this issue/criminal or not. He is stepping up to begin to state his position. who thought it would be different? any less laughable? who's next Travolta? oh and I thought hiv was no big deal anymore? read that in POZ I believe. So how's it murder?

It's so stupid I can't even be angry with him. I actually had a good laugh at the expense of his ignorance.People need to boycott ABC Family!

Frederick Wright, Coachella Valley, 2013-08-29 14:45:05
Angry and meanness to this Senor. I remember my Grandmother, she was so lovely and sweet and a Baptist or Christian. One time my cousin of 18 was traveling with her boyfriend and my Grand Mother stated with a big smile, can you believe that these two are traveling together and are not marriage. You see she had her own convictions on sexuality that was learned. I seen the prick ring before, and evil is in all the communities (TV). I live and walk in forgiveness and love of Jesus, try it out

The man is an menace and should be committed!!

Samuel Croft, Washington, 2013-08-29 13:42:22
This man is nuts. Where do they come up with these stupid, uninformed ideas. They should be charged with spreading false statements about medical problems.

Sandy, Orlando, 2013-08-29 12:40:46
How can such a learned man be so incredibly ignorant? There is just no cure for "stupid"

Neil Cordero, NYC, 2013-08-29 12:08:00
Pat Robertson should change his name to Simon Magus You know the magician who wanted to buy the power of Christ from St. Peter Simon Magus wanted to make money off of it

Mark S. King, Atlanta, 2013-08-29 11:51:35
At what point does the FCC get involved, for this level of ignorance being vomited on the airwaves? How outrageous must this pitiful, misguided man get before he is shown the door by his own sheeples? If remarks like this were being made about a racial minority people would be going berserk. Paula Deen has nothing on this deluded man!

I think this guy is tripping! Is he demented?

Jim Guinnessey, West Palm Beach, 2013-08-29 10:41:30
This man is an idiot who refuses to leave the headlines. Only Bryan Fischer is more evil and venomous than this silly old man.But even sillier people listen to him.

Andrew, Sacramento, 2013-08-29 10:40:57
Personally, I'm grateful when right wing religious wingnuts don their tin foil hats and open their pie holes because rarely does anything but crazy and stupid come out. Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Pat Robertson, Andy Pugno and on and on. Some are quite clever by wrapping their message in a cloak of Christian wrapping paper but the careful observer always sees through the simple misdirection. Even the village idiot sees through the sincere stupidity of the 700 Club cult.

This just proves that the older some folks get, the more delusional they become. Pat needs to go lay it down somewhere before someone sends him a ring! He's gotten older and stupider with each passing day. Shut da hell up! Another so-called religious leader spreading hate!!!

Jerry Burton, Fredericksburg, 2013-08-29 10:16:52
and Pat Robertson is an idiot.

RJ, , 2013-08-29 10:11:12
Give me a break, Frederic Wright. There is nothing "sweet" about Robertson. What he and others like him say and do to attack innocent people with lies that defy logic and human decency should NOT be embraced with a hug and a kiss. Trust me he doesn't want your hug and kiss, as he would accuse you of trying to infect him because that's what "HIV poz people do." I am disgusted and outraged, but yet not surprised either. The church is vicious and dangerous for our community. No love for Pat!

Thom Martin, Alexandria, VA, 2013-08-28 20:08:42
Dear Pat, Stand up so you may be able to get your head out of your rectum, and do some legitimate research. Aids originated in Africa. Had nothing to do with any Man's life style or sexuality.
