Inadequate Adherence to ARVs by Pregnant Women With HIV
Adherence to antiretroviral (ARV) medications among pregnant
women with HIV during pregnancy and after giving birth was inadequate in both
high- and low-income countries, according to a report in the journal AIDS and
reported by aidsmap. The adherence rates in the United States, Kenya, South
Africa and Zambia were below the recommended level for viral suppression. In an
analysis of 51 studies, 73.5 percent of HIV-positive pregnant women had
adequate adherence during and after pregnancy. Adequate adherence is defined as
equal to or greater than 80 percent.
