South African Clinic Refuses Services Unless Clients Get HIV Tests

A South African clinic is allegedly denying health services or treatments to patients who decline to take an HIV test, the Times Live reports. Community members are saying that staff members at the Ikhuseng Community Clinic in Klipgat, Northwest, are making any treatment (including routine visits, blood pressure medications, contraceptives) conditional on patients agreeing to take an HIV test in hopes of meeting South Africa’s campaign goal of testing 15 million people in one year. Advocates argue compulsory testing is unethical and not rooted in policy.
