Rhode Island Might Cut $375,000 in AIDS Funding
Rhode Island Governor Don Carcieri has proposed cutting $375,000 in HIV/AIDS funding to counter budget deficits, The Associated Press reports.
The cutback jeopardizes a $2.3 million case management system that connects about 1,000 low-income, HIV-positive Rhode Islanders with treatment, housing and dental care.
According to the article, Stephen Hourahan, executive director of AIDS Project Rhode Island, might have to lay off case managers if the budget cuts go into effect.
