3,000+ New HIV/AIDS Cases in China Each Month

Reported HIV/AIDS cases in China have risen to more than 3,000 per month, and the rates of people being infected through sexual intercourse are rising (reuters.com, 11/6).

On average, there were 3,223 new infections per month between January and October of this year, up from an average of 3,090 cases per month for the first half of 2007.

The percentage of HIV/AIDS cases caused by sexual transmission rose to almost 38 percent in the first half of 2007, up from 30 percent last year.

More than 3,000 people have reportedly died of AIDS in China this year.
