To Russia Without Love

"AIDS prison" is chillin'
Citizens of the icy Russian city of Pechora are all fired up over the proposed opening of an "AIDS prison" in their midst. The quarantine-style slammer, which would cater to convicts who have HIV or tuberculosis, caused a NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) stink; thousands signed a petition, and Yuri Spiridonov, head of the Komi Republic, tipped some ink. In a chilly letter to Russian Interior Minister Anatoly Kulikov, the pol said the city's inclement clime poses a danger to PWAs' immune systems. He added that the put-upon Pechora would become a hotbed for AIDS and TB, as former inmates settle there after doing time. At presstime, Kulikov had not answered the missive.
