Despite years of public awareness campaigns about HIV/AIDS in Singapore, a study reveals that many citizens are uninformed about basic HIV facts, Earthtimes.org reports (earthtimes.org, 2/1).
In a recent study of 705 Singaporeans by international development organization World Vision, a third of respondents said they believed the virus could be spread through mosquito bites and kissing. More than half of respondents didn’t know that HIV could be spread through breast feeding.
“The results show there is a need to sensitize people to HIV/AIDS before it becomes a silent pandemic,” said Elaine Tan, director of World Vision in Singapore. The study also showed that half of study participants said they would be uncomfortable around a person living with HIV and would hesitate to share a meal with an HIV-positive person.

"I'm HIV positive and diabetic (as well as have high cholesterol) and some of my meds specify taking them with 'high fat foods' which I have to do twice a day. I've eaten as healthy as possible, but when it comes to high fat foods, I am in a quandary...about what to eat sometimes..."
