Sonoma County Losing Federal and California HIV Funding
Sonoma County in Northern California has seen a steady reduction in federal and state HIV funding, The Press Democrat reports. Despite the impression of wealth as the home of world-class wineries, in the last several years the county has lost at least $1.7 million in funding for treatment, care, prevention and testing. In 2010, the county-run HIV clinic in Santa Rosa had to close its doors, displacing more than 600 people with HIV. Other agencies have had to lay off staffers and reduce services despite growing demand.
