South Alabama Cares (SAC), an AIDS group based in Mobile, will investigate its “financial irregularities,” Local15 reports. SAC serves about 700 people affected by HIV across 13 counties. The board of directors does not yet know who within the agency may be to blame or how much money was mishandled over how long a time. SAC relies on state and federal funding through United Way and AIDS Alabama and will continue services for its clients throughout the investigation.
