April 29, 2014

The 'Speak Up' Project, a website that educates the HIV/AIDS community about the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. the health care reform law, or ACA), has launched a new initiative to help people living with the virus get the care they need.

The “Speak Up” project will monitor, catalog and analyze the problems experienced by HIV-positive people nationwide under the ACA. The issues that need to be addressed will be brought to the attention of regulators and policymakers.

Problems accessing health care, such as getting prescription drugs, primary care or access to specialists, should be reported to the project. Success stories under the ACA from people living with HIV/AIDS also are encouraged.

Speak Up is a partnership led by AIDS Foundation of Chicago and the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation at Harvard Law School. Key national partners are the AIDS Institute, AIDS United, HIV Medicine Association, National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors, and Project Inform. Initial funding was provided by the MAC AIDS Fund.
