Surgeon General Nominee Draws Fire

The HIV Medicine Association and other groups are voicing strong opposition to President Bush’s surgeon general nominee, James Holsinger, whose Senate confirmation hearing was held Thursday. In a 1991 document entitled “Pathophysiology of Male Homosexuality,” Holsinger called anal sex unnatural, and criticized gay men for expanding the “concept of sexually transmitted disease and associated trauma.”
