Traditional Leaders Engage in HIV Education in Swaziland
The Swaziland Ministry of Health is enlisting chiefs and other local traditional leaders to engage in HIV education, encourage testing and expand antiretroviral (ARV) treatment, PlusNews reports. About 70 percent of the country lives on communal land administered by hereditary chiefs. To support the campaign, Joel Sacelo, a headman in the Shiselweni region, disclosed to his fellow traditional leaders he has HIV. Swaziland has the world’s highest HIV prevalence rate.
