Following a decline last year, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has announced a rise in the number of syphilis cases among New Yorkers during the first three months of 2007. Much of the increase has been found among HIV positive men who have sex with men, but the number of women diagnosed with syphilis is also up.
