The rare and highly contagious STD syphilis is making a comeback in New York City. The 2007 count is not that much higher than last year at 260 cases (10 of them women), but experts fear that even a small increase could usher in new HIV infections because HIV is more easily transmitted among people with syphilis.
City officials also believe that this eruption may be due to a increase in the number of bisexual men having unprotected sex with both men and women. The last significant outbreak in NYC was in the 1990s.
"I'm HIV positive and diabetic (as well as have high cholesterol) and some of my meds specify taking them with 'high fat foods' which I have to do twice a day. I've eaten as healthy as possible, but when it comes to high fat foods, I am in a quandary...about what to eat sometimes..."
