AIDS Advocates Support Task Force on Routine HIV Testing

As part of the public comment process, 316 AIDS groups and advocates, as well as 44 members of Congress, signed a letter to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force in support of its decision to recommend routine HIV testing, according to a statement by The AIDS Institute, which is one of the signers. The public comment process closed Monday, December 17. In its draft recommendations, the task force gave a “Grade A” to routine HIV testing for all people ages 15 to 65, pregnant women and others at increased risk for HIV. Under the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. the health care reform law), the Grade A classification would make it mandatory for health care insurers to cover the costs.
