LGBT Issues Included in New Sex Ed Strategy in Tasmania
The Australian state of Tasmania will introduce in 2013 an updated age-appropriate sex education that includes discussion on sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, Gay News Network reports. However, the Relationships and Sexuality Education Strategy will not be mandatory. Advocates welcomed the inclusion of LGBT issues. Officials said Tasmania has the highest rate of teen pregnancy in Australia and also has poor health outcomes related to sexually transmitted infections.
