An HIV-positive Tennessee man was sentenced to six years in prison on June 12 after pleading guilty to breaking into a mentally challenged woman’s home and sexually assaulting her, the Kingsport Times-News reports. The woman has tested negative for HIV since the March 9, 2008, assault.

According to the article, Kenneth Dale White was originally charged with aggravated kidnapping and rape, two Class B felonies punishable by up to 12 years in prison. However, White pleaded guilty to misdemeanor false imprisonment and Class E felony sexual batter, in addition to the other additional charges of aggravated burglary and criminal exposure to HIV. White received concurrent six-year sentences for the latter two charges, which are Class C felonies. Those sentences will run concurrent to a one-year sentence for sexual batter and 11 months and 29 days for false imprisonment.

The Times-News reports that White kicked in the door of the woman’s residence while her husband was at work. According to investigators, White barricaded himself and the woman into her home, made her undress and, based on forensic evidence, allegedly raped her. White—who is known to local authorities for several alcohol-related arrests—was later apprehended. He was reportedly intoxicated the night of the assault.
