HIV-Positive Texans Lose Dental Services

Dallas’s Baylor College of Dentistry will no longer accept referrals of clients living with HIV, saying that services are “temporarily suspended” due to Ryan White Act funding cutbacks. Due to these budget constraints, the college plans on resuming treatments in spring 2008, but care will be significantly reduced (DallasVoice.com, 11/1).

“The long and short of the story is that we’ve tried to be all things to all people as long as we possibly could,” says Dean Hudson, associate dean for clinical affairs. “Looking at the future in order to sustain this program at any level at all, we’re going to have to manage it very closely.”
