Texans Receive Prank Phone Calls About Possible HIV Infection
Several residents in Lubbock, Texas, received phone calls from an unknown person who claimed to work for the city’s health department and then falsely stated that the recipient had been diagnosed as having HIV, KCBD reports.
According to the local NBC affiliate, several of those phone calls were also left on answering machines. The health department insists that that it did not and would never make such phone calls since its policy specifically instructs employees to never identify a patient’s sexually transmitted infection (STI) over the phone. Instead, employees are told to inform the person that he or she may have been exposed to a disease and to schedule an appointment at a clinic for further information.
