Three researchers associated with the case of the child “functionally cured” of HIV are on the 2013 TIME 100, an annual list compiled by the magazine of the 100 most influential people in the world. Hannah Gay, a pediatrician at the University of Mississippi, put the newborn on antiretroviral treatment within hours of birth. Katherine Luzuriaga, an immunologist from the University of Massachusetts, and Deborah Persaud, a virologist at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, are involved in related research.
