Following an HIV outbreak in June, the Central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan commenced a widespread testing initiative. Today, seven children and two adults were diagnosed with HIV, bringing the total number of people infected through negligent medical procedures to 22.
The outbreak has been traced to several health care facilities in the southern city of Osh; the Kyrgyz health minister has fired four health officials including the heads of the Osh region’s children’s hospital and blood transfusion center. Currently, there are 1,203 people living with HIV in Kyrgyzstan, which has a population of 5 million.
"I'm HIV positive and diabetic (as well as have high cholesterol) and some of my meds specify taking them with 'high fat foods' which I have to do twice a day. I've eaten as healthy as possible, but when it comes to high fat foods, I am in a quandary...about what to eat sometimes..."
