Tú & El Obamacare

by Caroline Herter Jackson Jen Kates Tina Hoff

A Resource to Help People with HIV Navigate the ACA is Now Available in Spanish!

Tu & El Obamacare
The Kaiser Family Foundation’s Obamacare & YOU consumer web portal to help people living with HIV navigate the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is now available in Spanish. Specifically designed to address the needs of people with HIV, the Tú & El Obamacare web portal, funded by Gilead Sciences, Inc., is presented as part of Greater Than AIDS, a leading national public information initiative developed by the Kaiser Family Foundation together with the Black AIDS Institute.

As many as 1 in 4 uninsured individuals who are eligible for coverage through the Health Care Marketplace nationwide are Latino. Others may benefit from expanded coverage of Medicaid in states that opted to do so. Uninsured Latinos living with HIV could be among those who make the greatest gains in coverage from the ACA.

Among the features offered on the Tú & El Obamacare portal are:
  • A “Find Your Story” feature that explains how someone with HIV may be affected by the ACA based on their current insurance situation;
  • A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section that provides answers to more than fifty questions about the ACA as it affects people living with HIV, such as “Can I be denied health insurance because I have HIV?” and “If I receive services from the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program or AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), do I still need insurance?”;
  • A guide to the essential health benefits provided under the ACA with detail about relevance to people with HIV;
  • A downloadable worksheet to help people applying for coverage gather relevant information necessary to enroll and make plan choices that best suit their HIV care needs.
The Tú & El Obamacare consumer web portal is part of the Foundation’s ongoing effort to help consumers understand the ACA and their choices under the law. More of the Foundation’s consumer resources on the ACA available in Spanish can be found on http://kff.org/cuidado-de-salud-recursos-para-los-consumidores/. The Tú & El Obamacare portal complements the Foundation’s English language site and resources.

How are you using the web and social media to support consumer knowledge of insurance options under the Affordable Care Act as we approach the March 31 enrollment deadline? You can also tell us below about how you are using the Obamacare & You sites (English or Spanish).
