All over the world—including the United States—HIV-positive people can get tuberculosis (TB) too. A growing number of TB cases are resistant to treatment with the usual drugs and require special medications. But testing took one to three months to determine which strain of TB you had—that is, until now. A new test can detect whether TB is drug sensitive or resistant within two days, allowing effective treatment to start immediately. Knowledge is power—and possibly, in this case, survival.
