U.K. Scouts Receive Safe Sex Education

The U.K.’s Scouting Association has issued new guidelines to provide its 14- to 18-year-old members with practical advice about sex, Agence France-Presse reports.

While the organization’s efforts will encourage young people “to resist pressure to have sex early,” they recognize that some youths are sexually active. The association will allow Scout leaders to arrange visits to sexual health clinics or to hand out condoms to teens they believe are likely to engage in unprotected intercourse.

“At a time when 10 percent of sexually active teenagers are estimated to have a sexually transmitted infection and 50 percent of teenagers say they do not use contraception, it is absolutely right that The Scout Association gives its young people the information they need,” said Karla Bee, who helped draft the guidelines.

Glad to see that Scouting in some country is not as backward as BSA. I have been doing HIV Education for the Girl Scouts in Florida for 14 years. Boy Scouts? Forget it. Their rule is no gays-as if no one else is affected or infected.

"I'm HIV positive and diabetic (as well as have high cholesterol) and some of my meds specify taking them with 'high fat foods' which I have to do twice a day. I've eaten as healthy as possible, but when it comes to high fat foods, I am in a quandary...about what to eat sometimes..."
