A report by the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) shows that more than 10 percent of adults with HIV in low- and middle-income countries are 50 and older, according to a UNAIDS statement. Worldwide, about 2.9 million of the estimated 3.6 million people with HIV age 50 and older live in low- and middle-income countries. About one-third of adults with HIV in high-income countries are 50 and older.
