The AIDS Healthcare Foundation Blair Underwood Healthcare Center, named after the Hollywood actor and AIDS activist, is open for free HIV/AIDS care in Washington, DC, The Washington Post reports. According to data released earlier this year, at least 3 percent of DC’s population is HIV positive.

While the city has already made efforts to respond to HIV/AIDS, the “system of care is faltering in some respects,” said Michael Weinstein, director of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Underwood—who has appeared on television series such as L.A. Law, Sex and the City and In Treatment—was accompanied at the clinic’s opening by U.S. Representative John Lewis (D–Ga.) and officials from the Obama Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the March of Dimes. The celebrity said he lent his star power to draw more clients. Underwood already appears on a billboard in Los Angeles—where AHF is headquartered—encouraging viewers to “Man Up” and get tested for HIV.

“I need to talk to those men who are out there dating women who think this doesn’t concern them,” Underwood said. “It does.”
