Seth Berkley to Lead Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization

Seth Berkley, MD, has been appointed the new chief executive officer of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), according to a GAVI statement. He will leave his current role as president and CEO of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) in August. Berkley will lead GAVI’s billion-dollar effort to accelerate the introduction of new and underused vaccines in low-income countries and to save up to 4 million lives by 2015. He brings his expertise as a physician, an epidemiologist and a vaccines advocate.
