World Food Programme Ends HIV/AIDS Support in Uganda
While it is unclear when their decision will be effective, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has announced it will end its food aid and HIV/AIDS support in Uganda, China View/Xinhua News Agency reports.
“WFP's new global strategic direction reiterates that the WFP will always support the priorities of the governments of countries where it operates. In Uganda's case, the government is more focused on upstream activities as compared to food aid/support to people affected by HIV/AIDS,” said Stanlake Samkange, the WFP country representative.
Though school feeding will remain in Karamoja in northeastern Uganda, the WFP plans to review other programs that can assist them in being more effective in the country.
