Sworn into the Wyoming Legislature earlier this year, State Representative Troy Mader (R–Gillette) self-published a book in 1987 titled The Death Sentence of AIDS, The Casper Star-Tribune reports. The newspaper recently got a copy of the out-of-print book. In an interview with the newspaper about the book, Mader said that he stands by it.

In the book, Mader wrote that many gay people demand the right to have sex with children and that people with AIDS should be quarantined if they continue having sex. He told the newspaper the research in the book may be a little outdated, but he still believes gay men are more promiscuous than heterosexuals, which spreads HIV.

In addition to blaming promiscuity by gay men, Mader also blames adultery and prostitution for the spread of HIV. However, he declined to defend certain statistics and health care recommendations in the book. When asked by the newspaper if he still supported mandatory HIV testing for everyone, he said he was the wrong person to ask.
