Alameda County is the first county in California to expand Medicaidfor low-income people with HIV, the Contra Costa Times reports. California isthe first state to do so. The county is acting in advance of the nationalexpansion, which is part of the Affordable Care Act. As a result of theexpansion, uninsured, low-income people with HIV in Alameda do not have to waituntil they are diagnosed with AIDS to qualify for California’s publicly fundedhealth care program (known nationally as Medicaid but named Medical in thestate).
