Czech HIV Infection Rates on the Rise

HIV rates in the Czech Republic have increased 400 percent in the past decade—new HIV cases in 2010 are expected to top 200, reports The Prague Post. The spike is partly due to a decrease in funding for prevention, education and treatment services. This year, the Health Ministry budgeted only 3.5 million koruna ($179,212) for these programs, a 15 percent decrease from 2001. Experts said that early success fighting HIV established a false sense of security and allowed the disease to make a comeback.

The Czech Health Ministry recently lied to the UN, that the Czech Republic spends 50 mil Euros/year for fighting HIV - see Czech Republic 2010 Country Progress Report here unaids.org/en/CountryResponses/Countries/czech_republic.asp . Since April 2010 Czechs stopped to publish detailed HIV/AIDS statistics (aids-hiv.cz/novepripady.html ) to cover up that the number of voluntary HIV tests in the entire country is extremely low.
